Fall Writing Projects

In addition to beginning my second book, a biography on author H. P. Lovecraft and his time in New York City, I undertook two new writing projects this fall.

I penned a story “H. P. Lovecraft in Gotham” for Urban Archive, a technology non-profit promoting the digital collections of New York City cultural institutions and harnessing said resources for the promotion and study of local history. Although my book on Lovecraft is several years away, my Urban Archive piece hints at what might be coming.

I began serving as a book critic for the Urban History Association’s blog, The Metropole. For my first piece, I reviewed Daniel Kay Hertz’s The Battle of Lincoln Park, a study of gentrification in one Chicago neighborhood. You can read my book review here.

Needless to say, I’m honored and excited to be working with both organizations. If you read either of my pieces, I hope you’ll share your thoughts. Check out the work of other contributors to Urban Archive and The Metropole, too. There’s plenty to discover.

I lived there in the mid 60s, when my family & many friends considered it a “bad neighborhood”. I loved living there & certainly wish that I could have afforded to buy something then.
Thank you for bringing this book to my attention, I’ll look for it.
