Small Discoveries of Wonder

While sitting outside a tiny coffee shop in the Upper West Side in Manhattan on a recent afternoon, I looked across the street and noticed the architectural details of a seemingly nondescript building (ground floor business with several stories of apartments). The building’s artistic flourishes surprised and delighted me.

What did “Tuxedo” originally mean or suggest?

Such small elements give this building character and inspire wonder in passers-by. They display the sense of craftsmanship and pride of the building’s original architect and masons.

While walking to work or through your own neighborhood, slow down and look around. You might be surprised by what you see. A tiny garden patch. A stained glass window. A forgotten piece of statuary. Small discoveries always await us.
